strength of dialogue and communion of cultures – it’s a celebration of music in all its forms, gnaoua, jazz and world music.
Over the years this unique Moroccan musical event has become a prominent fixture on the international music agenda, and for 16 years literally thousands of people have been meeting in Essaouira to celebrate this exceptional meeting of world musicians, talent and music.
The festivities take place throughout the city of Essaouira, with stages set up in two of the main entrances to the medina, Place Moulay el Hassan and Bab Marrakech. Essaouira is unrecognisable during the festival, with the whole city living the gnaoua fever. The festival attracts an excellent selection of international artists who mix their music with that of the gnaoui. It also provides an opportunity for local artists to perform to a large public audience.
